Class Will Tell-Pearl Necklaces

The charm and beauty of pearl necklaces will never go out of style, even today they are highly cherished for their striking beauty and simplicity. Two of the most common styles frequently worn are the single pearl attached to a chain or a single strand of matched pearls. Strand lengths can vary by several inches depending upon the style that is selected. Popular choices include rope, opera, matinee, princess, choker and collar.

Rope necklaces are often worn with pantsuits and run 45 inches in length. The 28 to 34 inch opera style is seen at parties and special occasions. Business suits are often complimented with matinee necklaces at 20 to 24 inches. The most popular is the princess necklace at 17 to 19 inches which is easily worn in a variety of methods. Formal occasions are enhanced with the addition of a 16 to 18 inch choker. The 10 to 13 inch collar is perfect for casual wear and some evenings out.

Pearls are judged by their color, surface, nacre thickness, shape, size and luster. Good quality pearls should have high luster and good color. You can easily evaluate color properly when pearls are laid out on a champagne or white matte surface. Pearls come in several colors ranging from white, golden, cream, blues, green and violet.

Tradition

Young girls have been thrilled to receive an Add A Pearl necklace which has become a tradition in many families and friendships. A young girl is given a pearl necklace with one, three or five pearls usually from a family member as a gift. The young woman receives a new pearl on Anniversaries, Christmas, birthdays and other special occasions which is then added to her necklace until eventually she has a beautiful full string of pearls all given to her by loving friends and family members.

Sarah Jessica Parker makes it a practice to wear pearl strands on the popular TV show “Sex And The City”.
